About us

We bring nearly 100 years of experience, reliability, and expertise in storage and processing a wide range of food ingredients, including grains, seeds, pulses, rice, and spices. We offer a distinctive range of value-added services. Our extensive product knowledge and broad expertise enable us to thoroughly screen both your products and their packaging on your behalf. At De Vrij, we provide specialized processing technologies to re-clean and/or treat your products, removing and/or eliminating any defects or non-conformities. 1928

Establishment

The grandfather of owner Aad de Vrij began his business as a collector and broker for grain-producing farmers in the region. Their grains were harvested in the summer and were sold to millers and feed producers.

1934

Expanding warehouse

In 1934, the company expanded to new locations just outside Moerkapelle. The following years were marked by steady growth in the trade of grain, seed, and potatoes.

1967

Second generation

Aad De Vrij’s father, Piet, took over the company from his grandfather and continued the local grain and seed trade.

1988

Cleaning seeds and grains

By the end of the 1980s, Aad’s father, who was the owner at the time, decided to expand the company’s services from mere warehousing to include the cleaning of seeds and grains. Father Piet remains the company’s namesake to this day.

1995

New generation

Aad de Vrij joined the company, gradually assuming responsibility and introducing the third generation into its operations. The company’s focus increasingly shifted toward reconditioning and processing food ingredients.

2002

Service only

At present, the company focuses exclusively on providing services. We do not compete with our customers, nor do we buy or sell any products. All customer information is handled with strict confidentiality.

2003-2005

Focus on spices

With the company’s expansion, our spice storage capacity was significantly enhanced, supporting growth and improving efficiency in service delivery.

2013

Expansion Waddinxveen

Storage capacity was increased at the Waddinxveen location, offering a capacity of 25,000 m².

2017

Mostert & de VrijNijkerk

To support our innovation efforts, we have entered into a collaboration with “Mostert en van de Weg”. This partnership expands De Vrij’s core business by introducing a high-pressure CO₂ treatment in Nijkerk.

2018

Warehouse Nederasselt

An 18,000 m² expansion of storage capacity was realized in Nederasselt, strategically situated close to the German border.

2018

Kremer ZadenMiddenmeer

Acquisition of Kremer Zaden BV in Middenmeer (NL), a specialist in seed processing for the bakery industry.

2020

Steam Sterilization

High pressure steam sterilization (log-6) became operational in Moerkapelle.

2021

De Vrij GroupEstablishment

New office
